Flooding in Cipinang Melayu’s RW04 in Makasar, East Jakarta, reached a depth of about 1.5 metres on Sunday morning, driven by heavy rain since Saturday night and the overflow of Kali Sunter which could no longer cope with the water flow. Subagyo, head of the LMK RW04 Cipinang Melayu, confirmed that the deepest flooding occurred in RT 4 and RT 2 at around 1.5 metres, while RT 3 recorded about 1.0 metre and 60 centimetres. He said the water level rose sharply from Saturday night to Sunday morning, with additional inflow from upstream Kali Sunter worsening inundation in the area. At least six RT within RW04—RT1, RT2, RT3, RT4, RT5, and RT7—were affected, with the flood depths near two metres in the riverbank areas. Although Cipinang Melayu is a known flood-prone district, Subagyo noted that this year’s flood is the first to hit RW04. Residents remained on alert, monitoring water levels as authorities assessed the situation. Regarding logistics and aid, local administrators said no government assistance had yet reached the site; aid typically goes out after a census of those affected, especially for residents who decide to evacuate. “That is how it usually goes; if there is flooding, they are affected, and this time it only affects one RW, RW4. But this year, it is the first time we have experienced flooding,” Subagyo said. The flooding in Cipinang Melayu is part of the broader impact of extreme weather in the capital. BPBD DKI Jakarta reported that 39 RT and 13 streets across Jakarta were submerged due to heavy rain from Saturday onward. BMKG, meanwhile, forecast that some parts of DKI Jakarta would continue to experience light rain, potentially with thunderstorms, through Sunday night.
