Residents affected by flooding in Tukka, Tapanuli Tengah (Tapteng), Sri Kasnita Tambunan, has opened orders for dried cakes ahead of Eid 2026 (Lebaran). Sri stated that she is determined to sell cakes so that her children can wear new clothes during Eid.

According to reports from Antara on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, Sri is a resident of Bona Lumban Village, Tukka District. Despite concerns about potential further flooding, Sri continues to work hard to earn money to meet her family’s needs before Eid.

“Because my husband’s income cannot yet resume, we do not yet have Eid clothes, especially for the children. Regardless, we also want to buy new clothes for the children on Eid,” said Sri.

Sri stated that she has two children and parents to support. She also must help support her husband’s income, who continues to work in various jobs following the flash flood that occurred in late November 2025.

She stated that her husband is a refrigeration technician for a soft drink company. However, the disaster has left her husband without additional income.

Sri stated that she regularly makes dried cakes and sells them to her neighbours. Sri is accustomed to producing various dried cakes, such as chocho chips, nastar, kembang goyang (traditional fried crackers), and coconut root, which are her specialities.

However, she said, the current situation differs from previous years. She stated that this year’s orders must be limited because she remains concerned about potential further disasters.

“There are many orders this year. But I have reduced them somewhat because of the weather. When it becomes cloudy and rainy, you certainly cannot make cakes because you must pack your goods for fear that further flooding will come again,” she said.

Sri produces cakes in her home kitchen with one medium-sized oven. She stated that orders each Eid season can reach hundreds of jars.

Her business has also created employment opportunities for her sister. She asked her sister to help produce dried cakes so it could provide additional income amidst the disaster.

“So far, I have used 18 kilograms of flour to make four to five types of dried cakes,” said Sri.

Sri stated that the most expensive dried cakes she produces cost approximately 160,000 rupiah and the cheapest 80,000 rupiah per kilogramme. Sri and her sister can accept orders of up to 8 kilograms this year.

Sri’s own home condition has not yet fully recovered following the flood. There are still traces of flood water on the roof and walls of her house.

Sariani Tambunan, who helps Sri, also feels assisted by Sri’s courage to continue accepting orders. According to Sariani, she can also earn wages that can be used to survive following the disaster.

“Helping this way, we also get income for at least daily expenses, and savings for Eid later,” said Sariani.
