Flood spreads, kills two

BANYUMAS, Central Java: Heavy rains since Monday have caused several rivers to overflow, inundating houses and thousands of hectares of paddy fields in 30 villages in the regencies of Tambak, Sumpiuh, Kemrajen, and Kebasen.

Rising waters forced 350 families, or 1,760 people, to flee the areas for higher ground. Two people have reportedly drowned in the flooding.

Soybean farmers in Prembun and Tambak districts saw their crops destroyed by the flood. (wah/swe)
