South Tangerang City Government plans to build a retaining wall spanning 100 to 150 metres in the Citra Prima Serpong area, Kranggan, Setu, to address flooding that frequently reaches heights of up to two metres.

The construction is targeted to start this year as part of the normalisation of water channels at the point deemed most severely affected by flooding.

Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang, Pilar Saga Ichsan, explained that the retaining wall construction plan is due to the location being the most severely impacted point when rain falls.

“I just instructed the Water Resources, Roads, and Construction Agency (Dinas SDABMBK) to immediately carry out normalisation and repairs to the retaining wall,” said Pilar Saga Ichsan during an inspection in Citra Prima Serpong on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

During the inspection, he stated that there are several obstacles causing the location to always flood, one of which is the narrowing of the water flow or drainage.

Therefore, the South Tangerang City Government will carry out repairs through water channel normalisation and retaining wall construction at points experiencing narrowing and prone to landslides.

“The plan is to build the retaining wall at vulnerable points first,” he said.

The work is targeted to start this year. However, Pilar did not specify the exact implementation time.

In addition to the retaining wall, South Tangerang City Government is also highlighting the condition of the water pumps at the location, which must be ensured to function when water discharge increases. Meanwhile, the retention pond construction plan still depends on land availability.

“The target is that work must start this year and, if possible, be completed as soon as possible so that residents no longer worry when it rains,” he said.

Specifically, following the housing development on land that previously functioned as a water absorption area.

“This housing is from 2009. Previously, there was no flooding. After development around 2011, flooding began to occur,” said Yahya.

Even, he said, the location had previously been fitted with a retaining wall and two water pumps installed. However, over time, the flooding has worsened, with water levels reaching two metres.

This condition has led some residents to choose temporary evacuation during the rainy season, and some have even left their homes.

“Some move temporarily during the rainy season, and some have already left their homes, though not many,” he said.

He hopes that the plan outlined by South Tangerang City Government can be implemented soon, given the worsening flood conditions.

“If it rains for a day and a night, the water will rise immediately, even up to two metres,” he said.
