A flood measuring 1.7 metres submerged housing in Pondok Karya, South Jakarta. The SAR Team of Batalyon A Pelopor, Brimob’s Mobile Brigade Unit of the Metro Jaya Police, was deployed to help evacuate residents trapped by floodwaters in the area.

One of those rescued is an 84-year-old grandmother named Sulis. The evacuation was carried out to safeguard Nenek Sulis as she faced the floodwaters.

“The elderly woman named Ibu Sulis (84) was moved from her flood-affected home and taken to the home of a relative so she could rest in a safer place,” said Brimob Polda Metro Jaya’s Commander of Division, Kombes Henik Maryanto, on Sunday (8/3), via Detik.

Henik said his team carried out monitoring while helping residents affected by the inundation. The water level inside the housing area was recorded at 1.7 metres, while at the front of the settlement it stood at 1.2 metres.

In addition, flooding was reported on Jalan Kapten Tendean with a height of around 40 centimetres. Nevertheless, vehicles from the PTIK direction and the opposite direction could still pass. Brimob personnel also controlled traffic to keep it safe and smooth.

“The presence of personnel on the ground is a sign of Polri’s preparedness to assist communities affected by floods,” Henik said.

Henik stressed that Brimob would continue to collaborate with related agencies to ensure residents’ safety. Polri also urged the public to remain vigilant for potential rises in water discharge, given ongoing rains in the area.

According to data from the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) up to 06:00 on Sunday (8/3), 48 RTs and 16 roads were flooded.

Water depths ranged from 20 cm to 170 cm. The affected areas were mainly in West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta.

“BPBD notes that there are currently 48 RTs and 16 flooded roads,” said Isnawa Adji, Acting Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta, on Sunday.

On the 16 affected roads, water depths ranged from 10 cm to 120 cm, with heavy rainfall cited as the main cause.

BPBD DKI said it had deployed several personnel to monitor flood conditions in each area.
