Floating library gets a boost
PALANGKA RAYA, South Kalimantan: Officials promised yesterday to boost the floating library program serving people in remote areas.
The director of the province's library office, Simpoen Magat, said the program has received enthusiastic response from people who live along the banks of the Kapuas River.
Simpoen told Antara that he initiated book-supplying operations on the river, the first in the country, after a number of regencies failed to provide buildings to store books and enough librarians.
Some 15 people from the Palangka Raya Library are deployed to serve 200 students on the floating library everyday. (amd)
