Flandy, Eng Hian and Johan make early exit in Japan Open
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian men's doubles second seeds Flandy
Limpele and Eng Hian crashed in their first round match of the
US$180,000 Japan Open in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Flandy and Eng Hian bowed out 6-15, 15-12, 15-17 to Pramote
Teerawiwatana and Tesana Pansisavas of Thailand, as reported by
AFP.
The Indonesian pair have so far never been able to defeat the
Thais.
The Thais will now meet China's Zhang Wei and Zhang Jun who
had a 17-16, 15-11 victory over Frederik Bergstrom and Henrik
Andersson of Denmark.
"The Thai pair were indeed dangerous opponents. But Flandy and
Didi are in a tough group. Even if they won the first round, they
would face the two Zhangs in the second round, and it wouldn't be
easy," coach Herry Iman Pierngadi said by telephone from Tokyo.
Fourth seeds Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah of Malaysia had
to pack their bags after bowing out 8-15, 12-15 to China's Liu
Yong and Chen Qiqiu.
Indonesia's men's singles shuttler Johan Hadikusuma failed to
reach the second round after being eliminated by George Rimarcdi,
who was born in Indonesian but who now plays for Sweden, 8-15,
15-13, 7-15.
"Johan was too late in adapting. He was also troubled by the
bright lights during his decisive final set," coach Agus Dwi
Mulyo said.
The other Indonesians got through to the second round with
Ronny Agustinus receiving a bye and now going on to challenge Ji
Xinpeng of China, who also got a bye.
All England men's doubles champions, Tony Gunawan and Halim
Heryanto, beat the Japanese pair of Norio Imai and Hiroshi Oyama
15-7, 15-9 while Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto beat another
Japanese pair, Toru Matsumoto and Takanori Aoki, 15-9, 15-10.
In the women's doubles, Deyana Lomban and Indarti Issoliana
won an easy 15-4, 15-5 victory over Rebecca Pantaney and Joanne
Wright of England.
The Indonesian mixed doubles pairs also scored victories with
Nova Widhianto and Vita Marissa ousting Malaysians Rosman Razak
and Joanne Quay 15-10, 15-11.
Old hands Bambang Suprianto and Minarti Timur crushed Yuzo
Kubota and Yoshiko Tago of Japan 15-7, 15-11. Tri Kusharyanto and
Indarti Issoliana beat Tesana Pansisavas and Salakjit Polsana of
Thailand 15-7, 15-4.
Women's singles top seed Camilla Martin of Denmark barely
perspired in winning 11-1, 11-1 over Scot Fiona Sneddon in only
11 minutes. She will meet Zhang Ning of China on Thursday. (nvn)
