Five Villages in Aceh to North Sumatra Disappear in Wake of Disaster, Here Are the Details
Jakarta, VIVA - In the aftermath of the disaster that struck Sumatra recently, five villages have disappeared. These five villages were impacted by flash floods and landslides that occurred there. Interior Minister Tito Karnavian did not deny this. The five villages that have vanished are specifically located in the regions of Aceh and North Sumatra. “There are five of them,” he said to reporters on Monday, 23 March 2026. The former National Police Chief detailed that three of the five villages are in Aceh. First, Pasir Village; Remukut Village, Tinggi Village. Then, in North Sumatra, there are two. First, Garoga Village and the second, Tandihat Village. “In West Sumatra, there are no villages that have disappeared. So these five villages, yes. There are five villages in two districts, Gayo Lues and Tapsel,” he said. Furthermore, the man who once served as Metro Jaya Police Chief added that the villages that have disappeared will be removed from government administration. Then, their residents will be relocated to new areas. “Yes, the villages that have disappeared are completely gone, so automatically, if they cannot be rebuilt, their administrative status will be eliminated. The people will be relocated. For the relocation, the regional government will prepare the land, the buildings will be prepared by the Minister of Public Works and Housing, like that,” he said again.
