Five NTB Hajj Pilgrims Die in Saudi Arabia
Five Hajj pilgrims from the Lombok embarkation point in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) have died while in Saudi Arabia.
Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj), Lalu Muhamad Amin, confirmed five NTB Hajj pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia.
“Currently, a total of five deaths have been reported. Three women and two men,” he said in Mataram on Thursday.
He stated that the pilgrims were from West Sumbawa Regency, East Lombok Regency, and Central Lombok Regency.
Amin explained that the deaths were influenced by factors such as advanced age, comorbidities, and fatigue due to high temperatures in Saudi Arabia.
“Some pilgrims with declining health are estimated to have experienced excessive fatigue leading to deteriorating health and death,” said the former Head of the Hajj and Umrah Section at the NTB Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He added that since the peak of Hajj rituals, the condition of NTB pilgrims from cohort 1 to 15 has been generally healthy, though some have experienced health decline due to fatigue and are under medical observation.
The PPIH in Saudi Arabia continues monitoring pilgrims both on-site and at local healthcare facilities to prevent further incidents and ensure stability.
“Some pilgrims remain under medical observation. The health team is assigned to accompany and monitor cases with declining health. Food services and logistical support are reported to be adequate, supporting on-ground management,” he said.
