Five Major Chinese Technology Brands Reportedly Planning Coordinated Price Increases for PCs, TVs, and Smartphones
Five major Chinese technology companies are reportedly coordinating price increases across their product portfolios, including personal computers (PCs), televisions, and smartphones.
According to “Tech Qiyan,” a local industry source that disclosed the information on China’s Weibo social media platform, this pricing decision has already been determined internally and is merely awaiting implementation.
The specific five technology companies have not been named, but based on their diverse product portfolios spanning PCs, TVs, and smartphones, the likely candidates include Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei, which maintain comprehensive product lines across all three categories. Oppo and Vivo are primarily known for smartphones but are also expanding into broader smart device ecosystems.
The price adjustments will be implemented gradually rather than simultaneously. Computers—both laptops and desktops—are expected to be the first category affected, followed by televisions, with smartphones experiencing increases last. This phased approach is regarded as a strategy to minimise market turbulence. A coordinated price increase across all categories simultaneously risks triggering widespread negative consumer reaction; staggered implementation allows manufacturers to manage psychological impact on consumers more effectively.
The specific magnitude of price increases for each product category has not been disclosed. Currently, there is no confirmation that these Chinese companies will definitively implement price increases in the near term.
Multiple factors are pressuring manufacturers’ profit margins, including supply chain disruptions that remain incomplete, trade tariffs, technology export restrictions, and currency exchange fluctuations. In such circumstances, companies typically face a difficult choice: maintaining prices whilst sacrificing profit margins, or adjusting retail prices to consumers.
For consumers, if the report proves accurate, those planning to purchase laptops, televisions, or smartphones from major Chinese brands may need to consider their purchasing timing carefully.
