Indonesia has become one of the first five countries on the Board of Peace to commit to sending personnel to the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made during the inaugural high-level conference of the Board of Peace, established by United States President Donald Trump, held in Washington.

ISF Commander US Army Major General Jasper Jeffers confirmed that five nations have pledged to contribute military personnel to the International Stabilisation Force (ISF): Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Albania.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia was prepared to send up to 8,000 troops to the force “to make this peace work.” Indonesia has also accepted the position of deputy commander of the ISF in Gaza, Palestine.

ISF personnel will initially be deployed in the Rafah area of southern Gaza, with operations gradually expanding northward. The long-term plan envisages a force of 20,000 ISF personnel complemented by 12,000 trained police officers for the Gaza Strip.

Egypt and Jordan have also committed to assisting with the training of local police forces. The initial phase of the mission will focus on police personnel training before the scope of operations is broadened to other areas in stages.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that consultations with the Palestinian side had been conducted following Indonesia’s decision to contribute military personnel to the stabilisation force. The ministry emphasised that Indonesia’s mandate is humanitarian in nature, focusing on the protection of civilians, humanitarian and health assistance, reconstruction and infrastructure recovery, and the training and capacity-building of the Palestinian Police.

Indonesian troops will not be involved in combat operations or any action leading to direct confrontation with any armed group, the ministry stressed.
