Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari on Wednesday explained that the progress of KNMP construction for Phase 1, started in September 2025, has reached 99.23 percent, or 61 of the targeted 65 locations.

Meanwhile, the progress of Phase 2, launched in December 2025, has achieved 16.68 percent progress.

“At the Samber Binyeri modeling location in Biak Papua, the KNMP has brought a productivity increase from 5.35 tons to 10.85 tons per year per fisherman, a 101 percent increase. Days at sea have increased from 9 days to 13 days, a 44 percent increase,” he stated in a press conference.

He conveyed that adequate facilities and systems enable fishermen to achieve more than double their production capacity.

Qodari noted that the most immediately noticeable impact was an increase in fishermen’s income, from Rp4.35 million (US$248) to Rp7.73 million (US$441) per month, a 75 percent increase.

He explained that this was due to the increase in productivity and improved fish prices from maintained quality and broader market access.

The added value from fish sales, which previously amounted to Rp1.57 billion (US$89 thousand) per year, has increased to Rp4.57 billion (US$261 thousand) per year, a 190 percent increase, supported by a longer business chain, such as processing, storage, and distribution, Qodari remarked.

Included in the government’s quick win programs (PHTC), the KNMP is expected to strengthen the marine sector while supporting food security based on marine resources.

According to Qodari, the KNMP is designed to build a comprehensive economic system, where all fishing activities, from catching, storing, and processing to marketing seafood, are managed in an organized and integrated manner within a single business ecosystem.

The government has targeted a significant increase by establishing 1,000 KNMP locations by 2026. As of March 25, 2026, 1,269 potential KNMP locations have been identified in 37 provinces, consisting of 383 potential hubs and 886 potential buffer zones.
