Firms win fiber optic order
TOKYO (Reuter): Fujitsu Ltd and Furukawa Electric Co said yesterday that they and Tomen Corp had received an order worth 3.8 billion yen from PT Telkom of Indonesia to supply and install a synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) fiber optic transmission network in Jakarta.
Fujitsu will supply the SDH system and technology, and Furukawa will build facilities related to the system. The Japanese firms said the order was part of a plan by PT Telkom to install three million new subscriber telephone lines by 1999, and would put Fujitsu and Furukawa in a good position to win future SDH business in Indonesia.
