Fired drivers meet legislators
JAKARTA (JP): Twelve former drivers of the Gamya Taxi company
finally managed to meet with members of the House of
Representatives on Thursday to lodge a protest over their
dismissal from the taxi firm which, they claim, was unfair.
The meeting with the legislators was held on Thursday, after
the workers failed to get a hearing on Wednesday -- not on
Thursday, as reported on this page yesterday.
At the meeting the drivers, who were accompanied by their
families, said that they were among 130 Gamya Taxi employees who
had been fired between April and June last year.
"The mass dismissal was carried out after the employees took
the initiative of setting up a branch of the All-Indonesia
Workers' Union at the company," Novri Samsudin, one of the
drivers, said.
At the meeting the fired drivers were received by members of
the Indonesian Democratic Party faction, including Tiop Harun
Sitorus, Marsinggih Marnadi and I Gusti Ngurah Sara. (hhr)
