Fired drivers fail to meet legislators
JAKARTA (JP): Twelve drivers of Gamya Taxi and their families
on Thursday failed to meet legislators at the House of
Representatives building to air their complaints over their
dismissal by the company.
They planned to meet legislators Budiharyanto and Sri Sumarni
of the ruling Golkar faction. But the two legislators were not
around.
The drivers were among 40 employees who were fired by PT Gamya
Taxi for allegedly organizing a strike to protest the company's
refusal to allow them to form a workers' union.
Novry Syamsuddin, one of the workers, said that they had filed
reports on the matter with the Jakarta office of the manpower
ministry and the national commission on human rights. (29)
