Fire victims receive tents
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta mayoralty has put up tents in Cilincing, North Jakarta, to accommodate area residents whose houses were destroyed by fire on Thursday.
The fire raged through 213 houses, leaving one man dead and 1,321 people homeless. The authorities said the fire also caused a total of Rp 1 billion in damages.
Fire fighters, with 12 fire trucks, extinguished the blaze in three-and-a-half hours.
A fireman told The Jakarta Post on Saturday that the fire started with the explosion of a kerosene stove.
The mayoralty also has sent in rice, noodles, and other items needed by the victims.
Twenty volunteers from the North Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Red Cross are working at the site to help the residents, who hope for assistance in rebuilding their homes. (29)
