Fire razes in 5-story building
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Fire razed in a five-story building in Palembang Tuesday though no casualties have been reported.
The fire was put out four hours after it broke out at 7:30 p.m. The building on Jl. Atmo was full of flammable materials like plastic, rubber and chemicals.
Authorities estimated losses at "several hundred million rupiah," the Antara news agency reported yesterday.
The head of the fire department of the Palembang municipality, Muchtar Subing, said there have been around 63 fires this year in the city, but none have caused injuries.
Voluntary fire brigades now stand ready in every district, Subing said. (anr)
