Fire hotspots reappear in Tambora neighbourhood as firefighters extinguish
Fire hotspots have reappeared at multiple locations in the densely populated Krendang neighbourhood of Tambora, West Jakarta. Firefighters immediately moved to extinguish the flames.
On Friday, 29 May 2026, firefighters extinguished flames at three separate points, with thick plumes of smoke visible during the operation.
Seman Riyadi of the Krendang Fire Task Force explained the firefighting was due to buried building materials, which reignited the fire.
“Typically, buried building materials need to be excavated and cleared before the fire can be fully extinguished,” Seman said at the scene.
Firefighters promptly responded to the new hotspots, with Seman confirming the situation is no longer dangerous.
“The current firefighting is to address remaining hotspots; the situation is safe but requires debris clearance before full extinguishment,” he added.
A total of 27 houses were destroyed in the incident, with affected homes spread across several RTs.
“115 households (KK) and 250 people were affected by the fire,” said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for Jakarta Barat’s Sub-District Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), to reporters on Friday (29 June).
The fire was reported at 7:47 PM on Thursday, 28 May, and extinguished by 11:32 PM following the deployment of 21 fire trucks.
