Fire destroys Plelen market

BATANG, Central Java: Fire destroyed dozens of kiosks Wednesday at the Plelen market in Central Java's Batang regency, causing hundreds of traders to lose their business sites.

No deaths were reported but the fire caused about Rp 100 million damage.

Police believe an electrical short circuit in two kiosks, which were closed, started the fire which razed half the market, but the cause is still being investigated Antara reported.

The head of Pekalongan police, Col. Solikhin, said it was the area's biggest fire.

He said arson was not a factor. (sur)
