Fire Breaks Out in Gandamekar, Bekasi; Six Fire Engines Deployed
Fire broke out in Gandamekar, West Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency. The Bekasi Regency Fire Department was immediately deployed to extinguish the flames at the scene.
The fire continued to engulf a densely populated residential area around 8:56 PM on Sunday (31 May) along Jalan H Mad Boich Idris in Gandamekar.
Several houses were seen burned to ashes, with some roofs collapsed. A strong burnt smell filled the air, and walls were covered in soot due to the intense heat. The surrounding area was plunged into darkness.
Residents gathered and attempted to return to the affected area to check on their homes. Firefighters moved around with firefighting equipment, and fire engines continued to arrive.
Fire engines kept arriving in succession, while locals crowded the scene, occasionally documenting the incident.
“Turn around, turn around,” a man shouted, directing motorcyclists away from the fire zone.
A Bekasi Regency Fire Department call centre officer confirmed the fire was still being extinguished.
“Yes, still being put out,” said officer Said. He noted the fire was near residential areas and six fire units had been deployed.
According to Binmaspol Gandamekar officer Aiptu Giri, the fire is suspected to have originated from a warehouse storing textile waste, known locally as ‘lawon’ – remnants from garment industry or household textiles.
“Textile waste warehouse (source of fire),” said Binmaspol Gandamekar’s Aiptu Giri.
He stated that the cause of the fire was still under investigation. Firefighters were working to extinguish the flames.
“It’s still being investigated as it happened suddenly,” Giri added.
The fire broke out around 4:30 PM in the afternoon. Upon receiving the report, fire crews rushed to the scene. As of now, the cause remains unknown, including whether there were any casualties.
