Fine of Rp 750,000 for Those Breaching Railway Crossing Gates
JAKARTA - The Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated that those who breach railway crossing gates could face sanctions including imprisonment or fines. This is in accordance with Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation and Law Number 23 of 2007 on Railways. Article 124 of Law Number 23 of 2007 requires other road users to give priority to train journeys at level crossings between rail tracks and roads. Violations will result in a maximum imprisonment of three months or a fine of up to Rp 750,000. “Finally, we urge the public not to create illegal level crossings as they pose a great danger to train operations and the safety of road users,” said Franoto, quoted from Kompas.com, Thursday (30/4/2026). Four passengers were killed and five others injured. The collision with the train caused the minibus to be thrown 20 metres away. “Of the 9 passengers, 4 died, 3 were treated outpatient, and 2 were hospitalised at RSUD R Soejati. Still under investigation,” explained Kasatlantas Polres Grobogan AKP Kumala Enggar Anjarani. “The group was escorting hajj pilgrims, so there were no prospective hajj participants. Wait, still under investigation,” said Ari. This accident serves as a reminder that road users are obliged to prioritise train journeys.
