Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has explained the reasons why Finance Minister (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was declared to have underpaid by Rp50 million when reporting his Annual Income Tax Notification Letter (SPT) for the 2025 Tax Year.

The Head of the Bureau of Communication and Information Services of Kemenkeu, Deni Surjantoro, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, said the underpayment occurred due to a difference between the taxes already withheld and the tax liability, including the application of progressive rates.

In the tax system, according to him, underpayments are a common occurrence, especially for taxpayers with income from more than one source.

“All such income is combined in the tax calculation, while the withholding by each employer is done separately,” said Deni by way of explanation.

Nevertheless, Kemenkeu assured that Purbaya, as a taxpayer, has reported his 2025 Tax Year Annual SPT on time and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, to support ease and accuracy in reporting, the Coretax system of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has automatically integrated tax data (prepopulated), including withholding evidence.

The integrated data can help taxpayers fill out the Annual SPT correctly, completely, and clearly in accordance with regulations.

“The Ministry of Finance urges all taxpayers to continue carrying out their tax obligations in an orderly and timely manner,” said Deni.

News regarding the underpayment of the Minister’s SPT was conveyed by Purbaya himself during a media briefing at the Kemenkeu office in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3).

Purbaya suspected that the underpayment occurred because his income in the 2025 Tax Year came from two different sources, namely the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) when he served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, and the Ministry of Finance for his current position.

Before moving to the state treasury institution, Purbaya stated that he had never been declared underpaid when filing SPT because his income source was only from LPS.

Regarding the SPT reporting period, Purbaya extended the reporting deadline for individual taxpayers to 30 April 2026 from the original 31 March 2026.

Kemenkeu will soon issue an official regulation through a Circular Letter (SE) as the basis for that policy.

As of 25 March 2026, DJP recorded that the number of Annual PPh SPT reports received reached 9,072,935 SPTs.

DJP urged taxpayers who have not yet reported their Annual SPT to immediately activate their Coretax account and submit the SPT on time.

Taxpayers who are late in reporting their annual SPT will be subject to administrative sanctions in the form of fines, namely Rp100,000 for individual taxpayers and Rp1 million for corporate taxpayers.
