Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has announced a six-month deadline for Indonesian citizens (WNI) to repatriate their wealth stored overseas back to the country.

During a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, 11 May 2026, Purbaya confirmed that the mechanism would proceed without a tax amnesty framework.

Consequently, asset owners must promptly return their holdings to Indonesia and fulfil their tax obligations.

“We are giving them until six months from now. After that, if they bring it back, we will examine it thoroughly,” Purbaya stated, as quoted on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

If owners of assets and wealth abroad fail to comply with this provision, there will be consequences for them. Purbaya admitted he would not hesitate to restrict their business access if they do not adhere to the rules.

“So even if they have money abroad, they won’t be able to use it for business here anymore,” he said.

Although he did not detail the plan, Purbaya reiterated that owners of overseas wealth must follow proper tax procedures without any tax forgiveness.

This is because Purbaya has repeatedly emphasised that his side will not launch another tax amnesty programme through the Voluntary Disclosure Programme (PPS), also known as Tax Amnesty.

He also assured that taxpayers who previously participated in the Tax Amnesty programme will not face further collection actions, unless they have agreed payment commitments that have not yet been realised.
