Finance Minister Reveals Reasons Behind Large-Scale Mutation of 2,043 Tax Office Personnel After Ramadan
Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has publicly disclosed the rationale behind a major reorganisation of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) personnel following the 2026 Ramadan period. At least 2,043 tax office employees are set to be transferred beginning 30 March 2026.
Purbaya explained that the reorganisation takes into account the rotation of second-level echelon officials within the DJP that he implemented in February 2026. Accordingly, newly appointed officials in their positions will find it easier to assemble cohesive teams following the rotation and mutation process.
“The second-level echelon has already been replaced, so those below them must also be changed, so that these new second-level officials can form a new, more solid team — that is the main purpose,” Purbaya stated during a meeting at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Additionally, he revealed that the lower-level rotation follows the same pattern as previous tax office personnel movements: transferring employees who do not work professionally to non-strategic positions, whilst filling strategic positions with staff and officials who have demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
“We have already moved some of the rather unruly staff to the periphery, so this is also a message to tax and customs office employees that going forward we will be more serious about maintaining employee integrity,” Purbaya stated.
He indicated that the decision to rotate and mutate officials through to rank-and-file tax personnel can prevent the state revenue leakage that has occurred thus far.
“Going forward, if anyone makes a mistake, we will punish them as usual, and I also want to remind them that we are now not immune — if they make a mistake, they will certainly be prosecuted. So there is no such thing as casually earning money and then not being able to be processed,” he explained.
For context, the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Finance Ministry is conducting a major restructuring of its personnel serving as Objection Examiner and Account Representative roles.
The mutation notice is contained in Announcement Number PENG-91/PJ/PJ.01/2026 dated 5 March 2026 and signed by DJP Secretary Nurbaeti Munawaroh on behalf of DJP Director General Bimo Wijayanto.
In the announcement, the mutation of 2,043 tax employees is based on two fundamental provisions: Decree KEP-122/PJ/PJ.01/2026 dated 5 March 2026 concerning the Transfer of Objection Examiners within the Directorate General of Taxes; and Decree KEP-123/PJ/PJ.01/2026 dated 5 March 2026 concerning the Transfer of Account Representatives within the Directorate General of Taxes.
“A Decree of the Director General of Taxes has been established covering: the appointment and transfer of 215 Objection Examiner employees; and the appointment and transfer of 1,828 Account Representative employees; to new positions and headquarters as listed in the attached schedule,” as stated in the announcement.
The announcement also notes that the mutation decision takes effect on 30 March 2026. The names of the 2,043 employees affected by the mutation, along with their new positions, are included in the announcement’s appendices.
