Finance Minister Pursues 10 Companies Evading Tax Through Underinvoicing Scheme
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating fraudulent tax practices. The Finance Ministry is currently pursuing 10 companies detected engaged in underinvoicing—a scheme involving reporting transaction values below actual prices to avoid tax obligations.
This decisive action aims to seal revenue leakage that has hindered optimisation of fiscal revenues. Purbaya stated that the identity and data of these companies have already entered intensive monitoring radar.
Speaking at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday (16 March 2026), Purbaya described this illegal practice as a serious concern. By reducing underinvoicing incidents, the government is optimistic that tax revenues to state coffers will increase significantly.
“We have already identified which companies are engaged in underinvoicing and their numbers. I believe this will continuously improve our revenues going forward,” Purbaya said, as reported by Antara on Monday (16 March).
Although company identities have been established, Purbaya explained that technical teams are still conducting thorough audits to calculate the total state losses. “Calculations are still being made,” he stated briefly regarding the valuation of such losses.
Whilst pursuing these errant companies, Purbaya brought positive news regarding fiscal performance in early 2026. Throughout January-February, national tax receipts showed impressive growth at 30 per cent.
Latest data showed that in February 2026 alone, net tax receipts reached Rp245.1 trillion, or grew 30.4 per cent year-on-year.
Purbaya hopes that the momentum of economic growth reflected in these transaction activities will be sustained. Enforcement against the 10 underinvoicing companies is expected to send a strong signal to other businesses to comply with applicable tax regulations.
“So, the economy is truly turning. I hope it will continue to improve ahead,” he concluded.
Purbaya also sees no current urgency in issuing a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) to widen the state budget deficit.
