Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has guaranteed that the work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week will not reduce or disrupt productivity.

According to him, factories that must continue operating do not have to implement WFH.

“But for productivity, for factories and the like that indeed require continuous work, they do not have to (WFH),” said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).

Therefore, the one-day-per-week WFH policy will not disrupt productivity.

“Public services will also continue to run. So there should be no problem if it’s just one day. Our overall productivity will not be too disrupted,” he added.

He further stated that the government is also examining this policy in depth.

Purbaya continued that the one day designated for WFH will be carefully chosen.

“If we choose Friday, that’s a short day. So there will definitely be savings on BBM (Fuel Oil) of a certain percentage, I don’t know the details because it can vary depending on oil prices,” he explained.

Purbaya noted that the authority to announce the WFH policy lies with Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

“It will be announced soon by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy,” he emphasised.

The government is known to be examining several measures to save the budget following the escalation of conflict in the Middle East after the United States (US) and Israel attacked Iran.

Several budget-saving options planned to be pursued by the government include implementing work from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) to save on fuel consumption.
