Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has disclosed a series of technical obstacles in the Coretax system that hinder ordinary people from filing their Annual Tax Notification Letters (SPT). He admitted to experiencing technical disruptions himself while submitting his return.

When filing his SPT, Purbaya stated that the system repeatedly encountered loading issues. “To be honest, I didn’t fill it out myself; I was accompanied by a tax official. We entered the system, it spun again, and it took four attempts to get in,” he said during a question-and-answer session with journalists at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.

According to the state treasurer, the issues with the Coretax system stem from design problems and suspicions that certain parties are exploiting loopholes in the system. The specific parties mentioned by Purbaya are third-party application services or intermediaries offering easy access to Coretax. As a result, the system has been made deliberately complicated.

“The weakness is, you know there are software or application services that connect Coretax to clients? They say it’s faster if you use them. So I suspect Coretax has been made messy on purpose,” he said. Purbaya suspects these services are linked to large clients.

Nevertheless, he stated that he will improve the design and software of Coretax to make it more accessible. Improvements will also be made to the language in the system, which is considered too complex for the general public. Regarding this issue, Purbaya said that fixes cannot be implemented quickly but will still be carried out.

The complexity of Coretax has previously been a complaint from several taxpayers intending to file their annual SPT. Earlier, Director of Outreach, Services, and Public Relations Inge Diana Rismawanti stated that there were several reports of obstacles from taxpayers.

Based on field observations and reports to the official Kring Pajak service, the frequent issues arise because taxpayers are not yet accustomed to the features in Coretax. “There is language that is too technical, ways to fill in assets, and why the calculation results in ‘underpayment’ or ‘overpayment’,” said Inge on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

The original deadline for individual taxpayers to file SPT was 31 March, while for business entities it was 30 April. The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) targets 15.27 million reports by the deadline. However, as of Tuesday, 24 March 2026, only 8.8 million taxpayers have filed, or about 58.09 percent of the target.

Due to complaints about the complexity from taxpayers, Purbaya will extend the SPT filing deadline for individual taxpayers by another month to 30 April 2026.
