Finance Minister Promises Bonuses to Tax Officials if Tax Ratio Reaches 11%
Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has pledged bonuses for all employees of the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) if Indonesia’s tax ratio (tax ratio) reaches 11 per cent.
“If income rises well, let’s say the tax ratio next year could rise close to 11 per cent, I will ask President Prabowo Subianto for bonuses so you all receive bonuses from this nation’s leader,” Purbaya said whilst attending an induction ceremony for level II officials at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He therefore called on Finance Ministry staff to work maximally whilst maintaining integrity to increase state revenues.
According to Purbaya, increasing the tax ratio is one of the government’s targeted objectives to expand fiscal space. With greater fiscal space, the government can increase government spending to drive economic growth.
Purbaya praised the tax digitalisation through Coretax, which is beginning to show an impact on revenue increases.
“How much has it risen because of Coretax? The increase is quite substantial compared to last year, 30 per cent (tax revenue) has risen,” he said.
Beyond the tax sector, digitalisation will also be strengthened at the DJBC.
The Finance Ministry plans to enhance the surveillance system and strengthen communication with business operators to reduce potential state revenue leakages. However, Purbaya emphasised that system success still depends on human resource integrity.
The Finance Minister also cautioned that state revenue performance will be under public scrutiny. If targets are not met, leaders in the tax and customs sector will be the first to be blamed.
Therefore, Purbaya plans to increase supervision and coordination with work units after Eid, including more frequent field visits.
