Finance Minister: Indonesia Ready to Become Active Partner in Forming Global AI Governance
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that Indonesia is ready to contribute as an active partner in shaping inclusive global artificial intelligence (AI) governance by bringing perspectives from developing countries.
This was conveyed by Purbaya during the “IMFC Early Warning Exercise” session, which is part of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meeting agenda from 13-17 April in Washington, DC, United States.
“Indonesia’s involvement in AI has evolved from the initial development stage to becoming an integral part of the entire economy,” said Purbaya in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
In 2025, the Minister of Finance said, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector recorded the highest growth rate in history at 8.35 percent.
This growth is supported by more than 12,000 km of fibre optic networks and a national satellite capacity of 150 Gbps.
Indonesia is also actively continuing to strengthen its national AI ecosystem to ensure that productivity improvements can be optimised domestically, while remaining open to global collaboration, and positioning Indonesia as a user and developer of AI-based solutions.
In addition, Indonesia will remain vigilant against emerging systemic risks, including potential asset bubbles from AI investments, labour market disruptions due to automation, increased market concentration by global platforms, financial stability risks from AI-based decision-making, and fiscal erosion from cross-border digital activities.
In the context of global participation, Indonesia is ready to advance AI-specific early warning mechanisms to anticipate systemic financial risks.
Other support that Indonesia is ready to provide includes ensuring that AI benefits are distributed widely to support fair and sustainable global growth.
During his presence at the IMF-World Bank Spring Meeting, the Finance Minister also held several bilateral meetings with various development partners and Indonesian partner countries.
One of them was a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann.
The OECD expressed support for Indonesia’s accession process as well as support for institutional capacity development and knowledge sharing for Indonesia’s National Single Window Institution (LNSW).
