Film 'Game of Thrones' reportedly in development at Warner Bros.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The world of Game of Thrones, which previously appeared in the television series, is set to make the leap to the big screen. As reported by Variety on Tuesday 3 March, a Game of Thrones film is reportedly in development at Warner Bros., with Beau Willimon (showrunner of Andor and House of Cards) as screenwriter. He is said to have submitted the draft script, according to Page Six Hollywood, which first leaked the news. To date, no director or cast has been announced. If the merger is approved, the new management could cancel a number of film projects currently in development. On the other hand, Game of Thrones is one of the company’s most valuable assets, and Paramount chief executive David Ellison has vowed to release 30 films in theatres after the two media giants officially join forces. In other words, they will need a lot of material to fill the joint production slate. Although plot details have not been confirmed, the film is reported to chronicle Aegon I, founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of Westeros several centuries before the original Game of Thrones television series. Aegon I has never appeared on screen. However, the royal family, which later gave rise to Daenerys Targaryen with silver-blonde hair portrayed by Emilia Clarke, has formed the basis for HBO’s two successful spin-off series, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Based on George R. R. Martin’s best-selling fantasy novels, Game of Thrones aired for eight seasons and won numerous Emmy Awards, seemingly enough to fill the Seven Kingdoms.
