JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, together with the Ministry of Trade, have trained hundreds of female business actors on intellectual property (IP) protection and digital marketing.

This programme is driven by the still low adoption of IP and digitalisation among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Of the total 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia, 88.95 per cent are said not to have IP, and 68 per cent have not utilised digital spaces.

Senior Director of Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Indonesia, Vonny Ernita Susamto, stated that IP ownership and the ability to create content are increasingly important for female business actors to strengthen their businesses in the digital era.

“Meanwhile, 64.5 per cent of the total MSME actors are women. IP ownership and the ability to create content are becoming crucial for female business actors to #JualanNyaman in the digital era. These two things can create sustainable businesses and improve welfare,” said Vonny in a press release on Saturday (25/4/2026).

According to her, IP ownership allows sellers to join the Mall ecosystem on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, which offers higher visibility, promotional support, and exclusive marketing access.

In addition, video content and LIVE sessions are seen as increasingly instrumental in driving purchases. During sahur Ramadan 2026 LIVE sessions on TikTok, transactions on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop were reported to increase up to 15 times.

Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri said that strengthening the capacity of female MSMEs through digitalisation and IP protection is important to increase competitiveness.

“Female business actors play a significant role in the national economy, so strengthening MSME capacity through digitalisation and protecting IP for the products produced is very important so that more female MSMEs can #JualanNyaman, level up, and be competitive. We welcome the collaboration with Tokopedia and TikTok Shop in presenting programmes and facilitation such as consultation clinics that are relevant to the needs of female business actors, as well as encouraging inclusive digital transformation of MSMEs,” said Dyah.

Head of the Sub-Directorate for Brand and Geographical Indication Applications and Services of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law, Ranie Utami Ronie, stated that Indonesia now has a people’s business credit (KUR) scheme based on IP.

“Indonesia currently has a KUR scheme based on IP, which allows registered trademarks and recorded copyrights to be assessed by IP Appraisers at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to be used as additional collateral. This scheme targets 17 creative economy (ekraf) subsectors with a loan limit of up to Rp500 million. This is expected to help overcome the frequent obstacles of physical collateral that hinder credit access,” said Ranie.

Founder of the local F&B brand Mercon Merah Putih, Gracia Monica, said that IP protection is important to maintain product identity as well as business sustainability.
