Female Employees Become the Main Pillar of Mining Industry Transformation
PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MDKA) is committed to implementing comprehensive workforce management to create an inclusive, fair, and conducive work environment, particularly for female employees. This step was emphasised in commemorating International Women’s Day through the #GiveToGain campaign. Currently, MDKA has 1,081 female employees, or about 11.6% of the total workforce across all business entities, with around 15% in managerial positions. In implementing inclusive empowerment, MDKA runs the Female Green Operator programme to train local women to operate heavy equipment such as Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT) at the Tujuh Bukit Gold Mine (Banyuwangi), Wetar Copper Mine (Wetar Island, Maluku), and Pani Gold Project (Gorontalo). This programme also helps open job opportunities for local communities. In addition, the company holds the Mining Apprentice Programme (MAP) in Wetar, which initially focused on empowering women in areas around the mine and has now been expanded to other villages in Wetar and the Maluku region. This programme has produced 120 female operators who now play roles in operations at the Wetar Copper Mine. Besides operational areas, MDKA’s head office in Jakarta also organised a series of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026, including health discussions to raise awareness of breast cancer, along with ultrasound screenings conducted in collaboration with the non-profit foundation Lovepink for female employees. As part of these activities, MDKA also provided space to express diversity through a fashion show participated in by internal female employees. MDKA’s Human Resources Director, Titien Supeno, expressed the company’s support in creating an inclusive, safe, and fair work environment, especially for female employees at MDKA and all business entities. “We provide special facilities for female employees at sites, such as dormitories/camps, sports rooms, and others, so they feel safe and comfortable in their activities. If violations or discrimination occur, they can also report them through a special secure channel in collaboration with an independent third party,” Titien stated in an official release on Wednesday (25/3/2026). According to her, the diversity and inclusion ecosystem that has been built at MDKA needs to be maintained and enhanced so that female employees can work safely and remain productive. “We believe female employees are one of the important pillars in the transformation of the mining industry, which increasingly emphasises inclusion and sustainability. Therefore, at MDKA, we uphold values based on collective awareness of diversity and inclusion, which we then incorporate into various company policies and guidelines as the main foundation. Through this, MDKA strives to create an open, safe, and fair work ecosystem for all our female employees, so that more Indonesian women can grow and excel in the mining industry,” Titien added.
