JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Syafira (25), a resident of Cengkareng, West Jakarta, is celebrating Eid differently from her father. Today in one home, she is celebrating Eid with her mother, while her father is still observing the fast. “Alhamdulillah, I’m happy about Eid, even though in the family, my father is still fasting today. But I and my mother are celebrating Eid first,” said Syafira when met by Kompas.com after Id prayer in Cengkareng, Friday (20/3/2026). “So for Eid, we just follow each one’s stream, it often differs like this, not together. But Eid is still Eid, we celebrate together. It’s just that sometimes my father doesn’t join in eating in the morning, tomorrow he will pray Id alone at another mosque,” explained Syafira. “Alhamdulillah, I never feel disturbed. It’s normal since long ago, in fact, it makes me understand the differences between NU and Muhammadiyah people, but for worship, it’s the same,” she said. Nevertheless, Syafira still hopes to celebrate Eid together with her father. However, if there are differences in determination, she does not mind it. Another story comes from Hasna, a resident of Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, who left for Cengkareng at dawn on Friday to pray Id with her family. Hasna realises there is indeed a difference in celebrating the day of victory earlier than the government determination. However, she hopes that this difference does not become an issue. “Alhamdulillah, today is already Eid, I’m happy to still be able to meet Eid again, it doesn’t feel like the fast is over, even though we’re early. But that’s it, if it’s different, it’s okay,” said Hasna. According to Hasna, the difference in determining 1 Syawal is a common thing and does not need to be debated. “It’s each one’s calculation for their Eid, it’s normal, we can’t force it to be together, just understand each other, there’s nothing wrong with both. Even though if together, the Eid feel is more felt, because everyone is simultaneously lively as one,” said Hasna. This year’s Eid also feels emotional for Hasna because it is the second time she celebrates it without her father’s presence. “Even though it’s sad, this is the second year of Eid without father, coincidentally last year father ‘returned’ during fasting too. I miss him, but insya Allah, father is also happy to be prayed for from here,” she said.
