Jakarta, VIVA – This afternoon marks a crucial moment for the family of Arianto Tawakal (14). At the Professional and Security Division building of the Maluku Regional Police in Ambon, the ethics hearing against Bripda Masias Siahaya, a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer accused of assaulting the student to death, has officially commenced.

Far from an ordinary internal hearing, the session was deliberately scheduled for 14:00 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) to allow the victim’s family, travelling from Tual, to witness the proceedings that will determine the fate of the suspected perpetrator. Head of Public Relations at the Maluku Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, confirmed the arrangement.

“Today at 14:00 WIT, the hearing will be held in the Professional and Security Division hearing room of the Maluku Regional Police,” Rositah told reporters.

She explained that the hearing could have been held earlier in the morning, but the police took into account the victim’s family’s flight schedule from Tual to Ambon.

“We could have scheduled it for the morning, but since the family had to depart from Tual on an 11:00 flight,” she said.

Maluku Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Dadang Hartanto, even facilitated the travel of the victim’s parents and elder sibling to ensure their attendance. Upon arrival in Ambon, Nasri Karim (15), the victim’s elder sibling who also sustained injuries including a bone fracture, was scheduled to first receive medical treatment at the Military Hospital before proceeding to the hearing venue.

The Maluku Regional Police aims to complete the ethics hearing within a single day, including the reading of the verdict. A commitment to openness was firmly stated.

“We are striving for the verdict to be delivered today after the hearing. We are committed to handling this case transparently with nothing concealed,” she said.

As previously reported, the Brimob officer responsible for the assault on the Islamic secondary school (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) student Arianto Tawakal (14), which resulted in his death near the Uningrat Campus in Tual, Maluku, on Thursday, 19 February 2026, has been secured and detained at the Tual Police Detention Facility. The Maluku Regional Police has assured that legal proceedings against the rogue officer will proceed without compromise.

The suspected perpetrator, identified as Bripda Masias Siahaya, is known to be a member of Brimob Company 1, Battalion C Pelopor. He is alleged to have assaulted the victim, who was riding a motorcycle with his elder sibling at the time. The victim was rushed to hospital for medical treatment but ultimately died, whilst his elder sibling suffered a bone fracture.
