The time for breaking the fast or Maghrib in the Riau Islands region on 28 February 2026 differs in each regency and city. This difference is influenced by geographical location and the position of the sun in each area.

As a quick reference, Muslims in Batam City can break their fast at 18:22 WIB. Meanwhile, residents of Tanjungpinang City break their fast at 18:21 WIB. Although separated by only one minute, this difference is important so that Muslims do not make errors in determining the time to break their fast.

Besides Batam and Tanjungpinang, several other areas in the Riau Islands such as Karimun, Bintan, Anambas, Lingga, and Natuna also have different Maghrib times. This difference is common in setting prayer schedules because each area has different geographical coordinates.

Officers from the Islamic Guidance section of the Ministry of Religious Affairs explained that the schedule released by the government has gone through a careful calculation process and has been adjusted to the astronomical conditions of each region.

“The difference in Maghrib time of one to two minutes between regions is normal because it is influenced by geographical location and the position of the sun. For this reason, we urge the public to follow the official schedule according to their respective domiciles,” said a Ministry of Religious Affairs officer on Saturday (28/2).

He added that residents should not equate schedules between regencies and cities, especially in archipelagic regions like the Riau Islands which have many islands and a fairly wide area span.

“We invite Muslims to always refer to the official schedule from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to avoid confusion about the time to break their fast. By following the schedule that matches the region, the implementation of fasting worship can run in an orderly and more spiritually focused manner,” he added.

With these time differences, the public is expected to be more careful in confirming the Maghrib schedule based on their respective residential areas. Following the official schedule not only helps maintain accuracy in breaking the fast, but also reflects discipline in carrying out worship during Ramadan.
