Farhan Urges Citizens to Uphold Unity and Tolerance on Pancasila Day
Pancasila is not merely the state foundation but a living ideology deeply rooted in the long journey of Nusantara civilisation. Although the official formulation of Pancasila was first delivered by Bung Karno on 1 June 1945, its values have long been embedded in Indonesian culture and society.
“Pancasila has emerged from the roots of our nation’s life. These values form the foundation of national and state life to this day,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan during the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony at Bandung City Hall Plaza on Monday (1 June).
Under the theme “Pancasila: Unifier of the Nation, Foundation of World Peace”, the event served as a moment to reaffirm national commitment, unity, and tolerance amidst societal diversity. Farhan believes Pancasila has proven to be a guiding star for Indonesia in facing global challenges.
Amidst global uncertainty, inter-state conflicts, and rapid social changes, Pancasila remains a moral anchor guiding the nation’s course.
“Pancasila is a moral anchor of humanity in confronting global turbulence that significantly impacts our values and norms. It is also an eternal guide for the Indonesian nation,” he added.
According to Farhan, Indonesia has played a crucial role in maintaining regional stability and peace. This spirit is a concrete implementation of Pancasila’s second principle, Just and Civilised Humanity.
“We want to see the world become a better place. Peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice for all humanity,” he stated.
However, Farhan reminded that justice is not only a global issue. Justice must also be realised in daily life through equitable distribution of development benefits, economic progress, and technological advancements for all citizens. He argued that all progress must be guided by Pancasila’s moral values to prevent social disparities and deviations in national life.
“Economic and technological progress must be fairly and evenly experienced by all Bandung residents,” he emphasised.
On the occasion of Pancasila Day, Farhan also urged the youth to embrace Pancasila as a living ideology in their thoughts and daily actions. He cautioned that Pancasila’s noble values should not merely be slogans or decorative words but truly embodied in social, national, and state life.
“Let us reaffirm our national commitment. Let us show the world that Indonesia is a great nation upholding humanitarian values and unity,” he added.
Farhan also called on all citizens to maintain unity and adopt Pancasila as a guideline in every step of national development. “Indonesian blood flows in our veins. Pancasila lives in every heartbeat of the nation. Happy Pancasila Day. Long live my country, long live Indonesia,” he concluded.
Also present were members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), Bandung City Council leaders and members, military and police representatives, central government agencies, civil society organisations, religious groups, community leaders, Veterans Legion, Scouting Movement, and local government officials from the Bandung City Government.
