West Sumatra Deputy Governor (Wagub Sumbar) Vasko Ruseimy distributed housing renovation assistance valued at Rp25 million to the Dasiman family (43) in Taratak Baru District, Koto Laweh Village, Lembang Jaya District, Solok Regency, on Saturday (28 February).

According to him, Ramadan represents a time for sharing and strengthening social compassion. Therefore, the West Sumatra Provincial Government chose the Ramadan month to distribute various forms of assistance to the community.

“Ramadan teaches us to be more responsive to the conditions of our fellow citizens. The government cannot be indifferent. We must be present with real solutions,” he stated firmly.

The beneficiary of uninhabitable housing assistance this time was the Dasiman family. He lives with his wife, Yunita (40), and their two children who are still attending primary school in a 4x4-metre home in a deplorable condition. The house floor remains earth, without a bathroom, with deteriorated wooden walls partially covered only by banners and tarpaulins. The building was inherited from Dasiman’s parents.

Previously, Dasiman worked as an onion farm labourer, but he is no longer able to work full capacity as he has suffered from asthma for nearly two years. To meet his family’s needs, he relies solely on his wife’s income under extremely limited economic circumstances.

After directly inspecting the condition of the house, Deputy Governor Vasko stated that the building was already clearly eligible for the uninhabitable housing category.

“This house is already dilapidated and partly on the verge of collapse. The government must be present to help so this family can live safely and with dignity,” he said.

He also instructed that the assistance provided be truly utilised for house renovation. Vasko requested support and oversight from the neighbourhood head, village head, and surrounding community to ensure the work process proceeded smoothly until completion.

“The neighbourhood head and village head must oversee the renovation until it is completed. Residents can also contribute labour so the work finishes quickly,” he added.

Meanwhile, as assistance recipients, Dasiman and Yunita could not help but be moved. With a trembling voice, Yunita expressed her gratitude for the assistance received.

“Thank you, Sir Deputy Governor. We never thought we could repair this house because we had no funds. May Allah repay this kindness,” she said.

In addition to the Rp25 million fund for house rehabilitation, the deputy governor also handed over food packages and a Quran mushaf as support in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan.

The assistance represents a tangible manifestation of government presence in the community, not only through policy but through concrete action that brings new hope to residents in need.
