REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Police have named the driver of a black Toyota Calya, who was driving erratically in Central Jakarta, as a suspect. However, police are continuing their investigation to uncover the suspect’s motives for evading officers and driving against traffic.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasatreskrim) of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, explained that the incident began when officers stopped the Toyota Calya with license plate D 1640 AHB in the Gunung Sahari area on Wednesday (February 25, 2026). However, the driver ignored the officers and drove against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari. This action, of course, endangered other road users and caused injuries.

“That incident has already been handled by the Traffic Unit, with direct assistance from the Head of the Traffic Directorate, regarding the traffic accident,” he said on Thursday (February 26, 2026).

Although he has been named a suspect in the traffic case, police are continuing their investigation into HM. This is because two sharp weapons were found in the car. Furthermore, police also found that the license plate used did not match the vehicle.

He said that, based on the chassis number and engine number, the car originated from the Jakarta area. However, the vehicle’s license plate, which begins with the letter D, is a Bandung Raya, West Java, plate. Moreover, a total of four different license plates were found in the car.

According to the suspect, the car belongs to his brother. The suspect also claimed that he did not know about the vehicle’s documents, including the items in the vehicle. Furthermore, the driver was found to not have a driver’s license or vehicle registration certificate.

Roby added that police also found inconsistencies between the suspect’s ID card and his actual identity. According to police checks, the ID card used by the suspect does not match the data in the population and civil registration database.

“From there, we from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police are conducting further investigation regarding the alleged forgery of documents in the vehicle,” said Roby.

According to him, the suspect admitted to deliberately falsifying his identity. He said that he did not want his girlfriend to know his true identity because he was embarrassed.

“But that is, of course, a statement that needs to be investigated further,” he said.

He added that police are also investigating the suspect’s motives for driving erratically. Given that the action not only ignored the safety of other road users but also endangered them.

Roby stated that during the handling of the incident, police also fired warning shots. However, the driver of the Toyota Calya did not stop.

“That is also what we are investigating, what the motive was for driving recklessly, even forcing his way by hitting other vehicles. We suspect that this may be due to the inconsistencies we found in the car or perhaps there are other motives related to other criminal acts,” he said.
