The government has officially decided on a Work From Home (WFH) policy every Friday for Civil Servants (ASN). This policy is aimed at saving resources in response to the high global oil prices resulting from the war in the Middle East region. The policy was taken following instructions from President Prabowo Subianto for Indonesia to prepare, even though domestic fuel oil (BBM) stocks are secure. In the last plenary cabinet session, the Head of State even likened it to what Pakistan did during a crisis. That country considered the war raging between the US and Iran as “critical measures”. WFH became one of the steps taken by Pakistan. The working days were reduced to four. On the other hand, Pakistan also saved BBM. “So they considered this already critical, so it was called critical measures. As if for them it was already like we did during Covid-19,” said Prabowo in the Cabinet plenary session at the State Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday (13/3/2026). The WFH policy for ASN in Indonesia was announced by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto through an online press conference from Seoul, South Korea, Tuesday (31/3/2026) night. He stated that WFH applies every Friday per week. According to Airlangga, this WFH policy is also regulated in the Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform and the SE of the Minister of Home Affairs. The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian conveyed that the WFH decision applies starting 1 April. The decision is contained in Circular Letter (SE) Number 800.1.5/3349/SJ on the Transformation of ASN Work Culture in the Regional Government Environment, signed on 31 March 2026, addressed to regional heads throughout Indonesia. “We have signed the circular letter Number 800.1.5/3349/SJ on the Transformation of ASN Work Culture in the Regional Government Environment as of 31 March 2026 today,” said Tito in the same press conference.
