Facts Behind Man's Assault on Three Petrol Station Attendants in Jakarta
Facts about the Man Who Claimed to be an Official and Assaulted 3 Petrol Station Attendants in Jakarta
Three petrol station attendants in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, became victims of an assault by a man who claimed to be an official, identified as JMH, who became enraged because he was not given his share of subsidized Pertalite fuel.
The perpetrator was successfully apprehended by a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi, on Tuesday (February 24).
CNNIndonesia.com has compiled several facts related to the assault on the petrol station attendants, as follows:
The perpetrator is not an official.
Initially, there were reports that the perpetrator was an official. However, after further investigation, the police confirmed that the perpetrator was a civilian who works as an entrepreneur.
“The perpetrator has been secured and it has been confirmed that he is not a member of the National Police,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the East Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, stated that the perpetrator, identified as JMH, is a rental worker. However, Alfian has not provided further details about the perpetrator’s job.
“The perpetrator, JMH (31), has been confirmed not to be a member of the National Police, but rather a rental worker,” he said on Wednesday (February 25).
Using fake license plates
During the assault, the perpetrator was also found to be using a vehicle registration number plate (TNKB) that did not match the vehicle, i.e., a fake license plate.
Based on the photos received, the license plate used by the perpetrator was L-1-XD. This license plate was not intended for the black Toyota Vellfire car used by the perpetrator.
The perpetrator admitted to the police that he used the fake license plate so that he could fill up his vehicle with subsidized Pertalite fuel.
“My question is, why did you use a fake TNKB?” Alfian said in a video uploaded to his Instagram account @alfiannurrizal.id, quoted on Wednesday (February 25).
“To fill up with Pertalite, sir,” the perpetrator replied.
“Pertalite, to get a cheaper price?” Alfian asked.
“Yes, sir,” the perpetrator replied.
Reason for calling himself a ‘general’
In the same video, Alfian also asked about the reason why the perpetrator initially claimed that the car he was driving was a ‘general’s’ vehicle.
“Why did you choose this ‘general’s’ car?” Alfian asked.
“So that I can fill up, sir,” the perpetrator said.
“So, what do you mean by ‘general’? A police general or a military general?” Alfian asked again.
“I didn’t mention the institution, just ‘general’,” the perpetrator replied.
In the video, Alfian also asked the perpetrator about the reason for the assault. The perpetrator claimed that the assault occurred because the petrol station attendant first pulled his shirt.
Positive for drugs
Alfian also revealed that the perpetrator of the assault on the petrol station attendants tested positive for drugs based on the results of a urine test.
Alfian explained that they conducted a urine test because the perpetrator often changed his statement during the investigation process.
“After a urine test was conducted, the perpetrator tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana,” Alfian said.
Three employees were victims
Three petrol station employees became victims of the assault.
“Yes, that’s right, there are three of our employees who were allegedly assaulted by an official,” said one of the staff at petrol station 3413901, Mukhlisin (38), when met at the Cipinang petrol station, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Monday.
Mukhlisin said that there were a total of three victims in the incident, namely one staff member and two operators.
They are Ahmad Khoirul Anam, who has worked for about five years as a staff member, Lukmanul Hakim, an operator who has only been working for six months after graduating from vocational high school, and Abud Mahmudin, an operator with about four years of experience.
“Khoirul Anam was slapped on the cheek. Lukman was punched in the right jaw. Meanwhile, Abud was punched under the eye and on the cheek near the mouth, causing his teeth to become loose,” said Mukhlisin.
Broken tooth
The tooth of a petrol station operator named Abud Mahmudin (28) was broken as a result of being assaulted by the perpetrator.
“My tooth is broken in half and is uneven. It was bleeding because the nerves were hit when he punched me in the cheek,” said Abud when met at petrol station 3413901 Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The man, who has worked as a petrol station operator for about four years, said that he did not know exactly what caused the commotion at his workplace.
During the incident, he only intended to see what was happening because he heard a commotion in the front area of the petrol station.
Seeing his colleague being punched, Abud reflexively approached. However, he said that he did not speak or get involved in the argument.
The perpetrator then pointed at him before throwing a punch. The first punch hit his eye, causing him to feel dizzy and confused.
The perpetrator then approached him again and punched him in the cheek and the upper back of his ear. The punches had a serious impact on the victim’s mouth.
“It became more painful, especially since my tooth broke,” said Abud.
As a result of the injury, he said that he has difficulty eating and speaking. Even when breaking his fast, he felt quite a lot of pain.
“It’s hard to eat. It’s hard to break my fast. Even speaking still hurts,” said Abud.
