Jakarta — A member of Parliament’s Commission V, Sudjatmiko, has urged the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry to take swift action to resolve severe congestion on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route in Bali. According to reports he received, traffic during the return migration period has stretched 45-50 kilometres towards Gilimanuk Port.

The situation has forced thousands of return migrants to wait for hours on the road without certainty about crossing times. Sudjatmiko contended that such conditions cannot be allowed to persist, as they affect the safety, comfort, and rights of travellers undertaking the mudik (return migration) journey.

“This congestion spanning tens of kilometres demonstrates the need for swift, coordinated, and measured intervention. The state must ensure that return migrants can travel safely and with dignity,” Sudjatmiko said in a press statement in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He reminded the Ministry of Transport, PT ASDP, the police, and local government authorities to strengthen coordination immediately to implement traffic management measures. Enhanced crossing management would allow vehicle queues to disperse more rapidly.

“Coordination with ASDP must be strengthened. If additional ferry fleet capacity is needed to accelerate the crossing process, that step must be taken immediately. We cannot wait for queues to grow longer and for the public to remain stuck on the road,” Sudjatmiko said.
