Expert: State Losses of Rp1.5 Trillion in Chromebook Case Occurred Over Three Years
Jakarta (ANTARA) - An expert presented at the trial for the alleged Chromebook corruption case, Dedy Nurmawan Susilo, stated that the state losses of Rp1.56 trillion calculated by his team occurred over three years, namely 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Dedy, an auditor from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), explained that these state losses represent the total overpricing in the procurement of Chromebook laptops.
“Meanwhile, for Chrome Device Management (CDM), BPKP only calculated the margin difference,” Dedy said while giving testimony at the expert examination hearing at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday.
He detailed that the state losses in question amounted to Rp127.9 billion in 2020; Rp544.59 billion in 2021; and Rp895.3 billion in 2022.
He stated that a more detailed breakdown of these losses is contained in the BPKP audit report.
Dedy provided testimony as an expert in the trial for the alleged corruption case involving the education digitalisation programme through the procurement of Chromebook laptops and CDM within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) from 2019 to 2022, which implicates Nadiem Anwar Makarim as the defendant.
In the case, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2019 to 2024 is charged with corruption that harmed state finances by Rp2.18 trillion.
Nadiem’s actions are alleged to have been carried out jointly with three other defendants in separate trials, namely Ibam, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih, as well as Jurist Tan, who is currently a fugitive.
In detail, the state losses caused amount to Rp1.56 trillion related to the education digitalisation programme at Kemendikbudristek, and US$44.05 million or equivalent to Rp621.39 billion due to unnecessary and unbeneficial CDM procurement in the education digitalisation programme.
Through these actions, Nadiem is suspected of receiving Rp809.59 billion from PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (PT AKAB) via PT Gojek Indonesia.
It is mentioned that most of PT AKAB’s funding sources come from Google’s investment of US$786.99 million.
This can be seen from Nadiem’s wealth recorded in the 2022 LHKPN, which includes asset gains in the form of securities worth Rp5.59 trillion.
For his actions, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology faces punishment as stipulated in Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
