Expensive education
Expensive education
From Media Indonesia
When a new school semester starts, parents generally have a headache because they have to spend a lot of money on ensuring that their children will get a good education.
Subsequently, of course, there is no guarantee that these children will later get a job that will suit their education.
As a parent, I can only wonder why education in Indonesia has become not only very expensive but is also in almost total disarray.
One example is that the school curriculum changes quite often so that books can only be used for a particular school year because in another year there will be a new curriculum and, of course, new books.
Also, school libraries generally keep only a small number of books, so to encourage their children to read, parents must also buy books for them.
As the school curriculum changes quite often, the impression is that education in Indonesia is run only as an experiment, with the children as the guinea pigs.
Why can't we hold up as a model a school curriculum that has been successfully implemented in another country?
Also lacking in our education is the teaching of how to behave properly. The result is a lot of street brawls involving secondary school students, and a high criminal rate among students.
Education, just like food, clothing and housing, is a basic necessity for every citizen. It is the duty of the government to provide education at the lowest possible cost. Unless our children get a proper education, it is hard to imagine what this country will be like in future.
