Excellence always on the menu at Tony Roma's Jakarta outlets
No unpleasant surprises are in store when regular diners step into one of Tony Roma's two spacious Jakarta outlets in the Panin building on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Wahid Hasyim.
Delicious food worth every cent, attentive but never overbearing service and a pleasant dining atmosphere are always the order of the day at the restaurant deservedly famed for its superb ribs.
Since it opened its door for the first time in Jakarta in 1992, Tony Roma's has been a welcome relief to newcomers tired of the legion of restaurants and cafes which pile on the entertainment quotient and attitude but are short on taste and service.
"What sets us apart from the rest is the quality of our food because people come here for great meals," says Yulius Gideon Napitupulu, Tony Roma's Indonesia general manager. "For instance, we don't have the distraction of live music because we are about our food and service."
Tony Roma's prides itself on keeping staff on their toes to ensure that customer satisfaction. Restaurants operate under a "HOSPO" zone, or "How Our Staff Pleases Others".
Food and services are kept up to standard with daily discussions among managers and staff at each outlet. The U.S.- based Roma's Corp. also makes its own annual inspections of franchisees, including the Indonesian operations, to check whether dishes and service measure up.
And all prospective restaurant managers must pass rigorous training in Singapore before they can be responsible for the running of an outlet.
The bite of the crisis will never lead Tony Roma's to skimp on the quality of its dishes, Mr. Napitupulu assured.
Menu mainstays that put Tony Roma's on the culinary map of distinction are its succulent baby back ribs, the moorish onion ring loaf and a serving of coleslaw that will be a jolt to the palates of those raised on insipid restaurant varieties.
Its extensive menu has something to satisfy all tastes, including potato skins crammed with cheese and bacon, a hearty baked potato soup, the one and only all-American burger and chicken tenderloins.
For those keeping a close eye on their cholesterol counts, Tony Roma's barbecued chicken or heaping salads -- meals in themselves -- will fit the bill.
The skillet cookie sundae and scrumptious apple crisp are irresistible desserts to answer the call of temptation and round off the meal.
Guest satisfaction is the key, Mr. Napitupulu said, in spreading the good word about a restaurant.
"We are here to take care of guests because we know that if we lose one, we will lose 100," he said.
This philosophy has won the restaurant a legion of loyal diners, from the suit-and-tie crowd at the Panin building to families enjoying an evening of good food and conversation at Wahid Hasyim.
"We are an American casual family restaurant, but we are also a place perfect for business meetings," Mr. Napitupulu said. "And whatever the situation, we will not compromise our service standards and food quality.
