Jakarta, Kompas.com – The Ministry of Public Works (PU) through its Building, Infrastructure, and Area Development Centre in DKI Jakarta has provided clarification regarding the impact of the Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) on Jalan Tanah Pasir in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The Ministry of PU explained that the project aims to improve environmental quality, particularly through wastewater management via a centralised system.

“In other words, wastewater from individual homeowners or building owners will be treated at wastewater treatment facilities with distribution through a network of pipelines,” stated the written statement from the Building, Infrastructure, and Area Development Centre of the Ministry of PU on Friday, 27 February 2026.

The Ministry of PU explained that connections are made manually to service pipes in the road surface.

“In terms of implementation, work on Jalan Tanah Pasir is adjusted to be conducted only during the night until early morning to provide access and activity space for road users during daylight hours,” the ministry stated.

Regarding dust complaints, project management said temporary mitigation measures had been implemented. “This has been addressed using asphalt,” it added.

The Ministry of PU said the target for project completion is July 2026, followed by permanent restoration of the full road surface in August 2026.

The Ministry of PU added its commitment to continue monitoring and improvements during construction to minimise impact on residents. “Support from all parties is needed to ensure this activity proceeds smoothly and is completed on time,” it said.

Despite appearing newly patched with asphalt, holes and uneven road conditions have reappeared at the same locations. One nearby resident, Akbar (35), said the situation has actually persisted for quite some time, with residents having frequently requested repairs.

“Residents here have complained many times but it never gets fixed. It was still damaged before the new year; it’s been broken for quite a while,” he said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Monday, 20 February 2026.
