Examining Karo Chief Prosecutor Danke Rajagukguk, AG's Office: Presumption of Innocence Still Applies
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Head of the Public Relations and Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) Anang Supriatna has assured that the principle of caution will continue to be applied in clarifying Karo Chief Prosecutor Danke Rajagukguk and his subordinates. “We still uphold the presumption of innocence,” Anang told reporters on Sunday (5/4/2026). According to Anang, if Danke and the others are found to have violated rules, they will receive ethical sanctions. “If they are proven to have violated and been unprofessional, there will be internal ethical actions against them,” Anang added. The office wants to assess whether Danke and his colleagues handled the Amsal Sitepu case professionally or not. “Clearly, they have been summoned first for clarification on whether the case handling was professional or not,” he said. It is known that the problematic Karo District Prosecutor’s Office team, North Sumatra Provincial Prosecutor Harli Siregar, and Amsal Sitepu were called by DPR Commission III to the DPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026). In addition, the Karo Chief Prosecutor is also alleged to have received a car from Karo Regent Antonius Ginting, thus deliberately not investigating the regency government case. The case stems from a village profile video production project in Karo Regency that led to legal proceedings. During the 2020 to 2022 budget period, Amsal offered video production services to several village governments in Karo Regency. Through his company, CV Promiseland, he submitted proposals to 20 villages in four sub-districts, namely Tiganderket, Tigabinanga, Tigapanah, and Namanteran. Legal issues arose when the proposals were suspected of not matching the actual conditions or involving mark-ups. From the analysis by the Karo Regency Inspectorate auditors, the video production cost should have been around Rp 24.1 million per village.
