Ex-political prisoners need help

JAKARTA: Former Jakarta governor Ali Sadikin is demanding that the government rehabilitate former political prisoners.

"The government must restore the reputation of former political detainees and prisoners. Many of them are now living in pitiful conditions," Ali said at a hearing with the House of Representatives Commission I on security and political affairs.

Families of political detainees/prisoners live in fear, alienated from society and have difficulty finding work due to the social stigma on them, added Ali.

Ali also urged the government to resolve human rights violations where some political detainees/prisoners were charged or executed without trial. -- Antara.
