Ex-PD Pasar Jaya director questioned
The Jakarta Prosecutor's Office has questioned seven more people, including an ex-director of the City-Owned Market Company (PD Pasar Jaya) in connection with a Rp 2 billion (US$ 926,000) embezzlement at the company.
Former PD Pasar Jaya finance and administrative affairs director Omaran and six other officials were questioned by the prosecution's team last week as witnesses in the case, which involved Atin Setiadi as a main suspect.
Setiadi, 36, a low-ranking official in the treasury department of the company, was captured by police on June 6 in Labuan, Pandeglang, West Java, where he had been hiding for six months.
Reliable sources have indicated that Setiadi had told the investigators that he did not act alone in the fraud which had allegedly been going on for years.
The prosecutor's office has thus far questioned at least 21 people, including senior officials of the company.
In the embezzlement, Setiadi reportedly manipulated employees' pension funds, insurance premiums and registration fees as well as the firm's taxes. (has)
