EU Warns Israel's E1 Settlement Project Undermines Two-State Solution

London (ANTARA) - The European Union (EU) foreign policy chief, Kaja Klaus, warned on Wednesday that Israel’s E1 settlement project in the West Bank will further weaken the prospects of a two-state solution.

“The E1 settlement will further undermine the prospects of a two-state solution by dividing the West Bank,” Kallas stated during a press conference following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Wicklow, Ireland.

“Settler violence against Palestinians continues to increase, and is often left unchecked without decisive action,” Kallas added.

She further noted that the EU will continue to support the Gaza Peace Plan and work alongside partners to realise a two-state solution.

The informal meeting, also known as the Gymnich meeting, was held on Tuesday (1/9) and Wednesday under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The meeting brought together EU foreign ministers to conduct strategic discussions regarding current geopolitical developments.

Israel continued its controversial E1 settlement project in the West Bank in August, issuing tenders for 1,234 residential units.

The tender, published online by the Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing, is part of a broader plan to build 3,401 residential units in the E1 area located east of Jerusalem.
