EU-UN Strategic Committee Reaffirms Support for the UN Charter
UN (ANTARA) - The EU-UN Strategic Committee for Peace and Security delegation reaffirmed their strong support for the aims and principles of the UN Charter and for a rules-based international order grounded in international law at its first meeting in New York, United States, on Tuesday (3/3).
The meeting was co-chaired by the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo; the head of the UN Department of Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix; and the Deputy Secretary-General for Peace, Security and Defence at the European External Action Service, Charles Fries, as explained by UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in a daily briefing.
During the meeting, delegates exchanged views on developments in the global peace and security landscape, and discussed the future of peacekeeping operations and UN special political missions, as well as the orientation of EU missions and operations in the future.
The EU and UN agreed to place particular emphasis on their cooperation in the transition process; the Women, Peace and Security agenda; climate, peace and security; strategic planning; and conflict prevention and peacebuilding, Dujarric said.
The EU-UN Strategic Committee for Peace and Security, which meets annually, was established in 2025 to steer strategic planning, enhance coordination, and strengthen cooperation between the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy missions and UN peace operations.
